TimberTech vs. Wood Decking
TimberTech is designed for lower routine maintenance and improved resistance to moisture and environmental exposure compared with traditional wood — no regular sanding, staining or sealing.

TimberTech Deck Resurfacing
Does your deck look worn even though the structure underneath may still be usable? Resurfacing can let you replace aging boards, railings and stairs while keeping suitable portions of the existing structure — but only after we evaluate the framing, joists, posts and footings. Old boards don’t always mean bad framing, and removing them can sometimes reveal problems that weren’t visible before.

Homeowners compare these two brands often, and there isn’t a one-size-fits-all winner. TimberTech and Trex both offer low-maintenance alternatives to traditional wood, but their product lines differ in construction, appearance, price points and available performance features. We install both, along with AZEK, so we can compare options honestly based on your budget, preferred appearance, deck location and performance priorities.
Does TimberTech Decking Require Maintenance?
TimberTech requires less routine maintenance than traditional wood, but low-maintenance doesn’t mean no maintenance. Routine cleaning is still recommended to remove dirt, pollen, leaves and other debris. TimberTech specifically advises against painting or staining its decking, and notes that problems caused by third-party coatings may not be covered under warranty.

Is TimberTech good for Pittsburgh weather?
Yes. TimberTech composite and Advanced PVC decking are designed to resist moisture and environmental exposure better than untreated wood, which makes them a strong fit for Western Pennsylvania’s moisture and freeze-thaw conditions.
How long is TimberTech decking covered by warranty?
It depends on the product. Composite collections currently carry 25- or 30-year limited product and fade-and-stain warranties, while Advanced PVC carries a Limited Lifetime Product Warranty plus 35- or 50-year fade-and-stain coverage. Review the warranty for your specific selection.
Does TimberTech need to be stained?
No. TimberTech doesn’t recommend painting or staining its decking. Routine cleaning is still necessary to maintain its appearance.
Can Lorenzi resurface my existing deck with TimberTech?
Potentially. If the existing framing, posts and footings are suitable for continued use, resurfacing may be an alternative to a full rebuild. We evaluate the structure before making that recommendation.
