What Is AZEK Decking?
Today these premium PVC decking products are marketed as TimberTech Advanced PVC, manufactured by The AZEK Company, with current collections including Vintage, Landmark, Harvest, Harvest+ and Solstice. Unlike wood-composite decking, Advanced PVC doesn’t rely on wood fibers as its core material — which can mean:

AZEK vs. Traditional Wood
AZEK / Advanced PVC won’t splinter, crack, peel or rot the way wood can, and it skips the sanding, staining and sealing that wood decking requires.
Wood is a genuine natural material and may cost less upfront depending on species, but needs more ongoing maintenance to preserve its appearance.

Is AZEK the Same as TimberTech?
AZEK-branded decking is now part of the TimberTech product portfolio. Products homeowners still commonly call “AZEK decking” are generally marketed today as TimberTech Advanced PVC — so if you’re researching either name, you’re likely looking at the same current product family.
AZEK vs. Trex: What’s the Difference?
AZEK-branded TimberTech Advanced PVC is PVC-based, while Trex’s core decking is a wood-plastic composite. Both are lower-maintenance alternatives to wood, but construction, appearance and price differ enough that one may suit your project better. We install both, so we compare based on your deck — not a predetermined answer.

We evaluate framing, joists, support posts, footings, railings and stairs before making that call — a deck that looks worn may have a perfectly usable structure underneath, and vice versa.
Our goal is to tell you whether resurfacing makes sense — not to sell it when the underlying structure doesn’t support it.

Current TimberTech Advanced PVC products carry a Limited Lifetime Product Warranty for qualifying residential applications, plus long-term fade-and-stain coverage that varies by collection and purchase date. Review the warranty for the exact product you’re purchasing rather than assuming every AZEK/TimberTech product carries identical terms.

No. TimberTech Advanced PVC is a lower-maintenance decking product and doesn’t require the routine sanding, staining and sealing associated with wood decking.
Does AZEK decking get hot?
